Looking into the southern night a large streak cloud.

Surfacing from our night dive, the excitement on deck was not about the amazing sights on the ocean floor but about the celestial display hanging over Jervis Bay. The comet we had being hearing about in the news but hadn’t seen was putting what is probably the best comet sighting since perhaps Haley's comet back around 1910, last night’s comet would have been close to one tenth of the sky in length. With a soft red glow to the comets head reflecting the early evening setting sun and a huge tail, sharp on one side and fanned towards the east like a feather plume or a drifting column of smoke over a huge bush fire, probable a once in a lifetime spectacle (L.D. 21-1-07).

What a show you guys put on. A friendly and obliging crew, fantastic food (had a wetsuit zipper blow out!), beautiful underwater adventures, even if it was sub-Antarctic temperatures, and a light show supplied by McNought’s comet that was second to none. What a great weekend, certainly well worth the effort. Diving was fantastic but unfortunately no seedy weed dragons(!) to be seen. A great time had by all under the McNought’s Comet, a big thank you to the friendly staff of the Ocean Trek, we will be back soon. David and Meredith.

Pity about the Seedy weed dragons, although they were probably looking at us the whole time. The hospitability and general looking after from the crew was fantastic. The highlights were the night dive and emerging to see the comet. Anastasia Tsatralis
