I Found an Anchor

14th June 2009

Name the two who found Ocean Trek's Anchor. and also made Mick to pull it up by hand (AHHH!!!! my BACK )

My bit!

The weekend aboard Ocean Trek was filled with anticipation as message had got to me how good conditions were the previous weekend and how the weather was looking GOOD!

With introductions out of the way, the mix of Canberra based divers listened to what was in stall for the weekend.

I had discussed with Lyn about conducting some informal workshops to review safe diving practices.

This was in the form of a lecture and power point presentation during our surface interval on Saturday afternoon.

A rush of activity followed and at the end of the dive the sea was alive with safety sausages popping up everywhere!

In typical fashion a grand Saturday night roast dinner was held after the night dive.

We spent the night outside at the Drum & Drumsticks just next to probably 50- 100 seals on the Drum!

They were very keen to play with our divers

Sunday was the pick of the dives for me with the first in the same area to visit a small population of Grey Nurse Sharks then back to dive one of the caves outside the bay!

WOW!

Thanks to Lyn, Mick and the staff for such a memorable weekend’s diving.

Hi folks

What is that saying about "a picture paints a thousand words"? I really hope you enjoy Sharyn's images from our weekend aboard Ocean Trek.

The theme of the weekend was to re visit safe diving procedures! Lyn's Saturday afternoon power point presentation and lecture was very interesting and it is hard to argue with someone who has supervised thousands of recreational divers over the years!

Our first dive on Saturday morning was just inside Point Perpendicular but then it was off outside the Bay, up to the Drum & Drumsticks where we dived with seals, Grey Nurse Sharks and even a turtle! Water temperature sat at about 19 degrees most of the weekend. Between dives we observed a pair of sea eagles nesting on top of the Drum.

WE stayed out over night and logged 4 boat dives in the area! Our Last dive for the weekend was in one of the small sea caves, the Devil's Cauldron, north Point Perpendicular.

Wow what a wonderful weekend's diving!

To all who participated in the weekend, a very big thanks you for making it so enjoyable!

Cheers

Pat

It was a tough act to follow, but my second OceanTrek experience

surpassed even the first.

I dived some interesting locations with great buddies - among wrecks,

caves, seal colonies, and shark gutters. Close encounters with seals,

Grey nurse sharks and Blue devils are always special, and I saw things I

hadn't seen before, such as sea-spiders, a noumea nudibranch and giant

candy-striped amphipods (thanks, Pat!). The scenery above water was also

spectacular - one could not want to be anywhere else, watching whales,

eagles, and the setting sun light up the Drum and Drumsticks.

Supporting the weekend were again the extremely competent and

entertaining crew, with great food and comfortable quarters to

compliment the diving. Lyn gave a very considered, well-pitched seminar

on safe diving practises focussing on DCI hazards. Data recorded from

actual dives was used to plot rates of nitrogen absorbtion and release

in tissue, demonstrating the risks associated with a range of dive

profiles, giving me a much greater understanding of the theory I'd

already learnt. Thanks to all who there for the great weekend, I look

forward to the next trek!
