Catriona’s Birthday

26 February 2006

Well… it all happened one night 18 years ago…………..

It was an usually tame weekend for Ocean Trek. Only a few souls kept watch the first night, giving in an hour after midnight in hopes that the next night might be more eventful. Saturday night did indeed start off with more promise … it had been a great day of diving, food and company were good, but how could one expect any less for Catriona’s birthday? Yet, the evening ended quite early … before midnight! Are we all getting old?!

Not only did Catriona turn "legal" on the first day of the trip, but on Saturday she completed her 100th dive as well as her Enriched Air Nitrox certification. Well done Catriona! Judging by the smiles on both she and her Father, who accompanied her, they had a great time and will be back onboard Ocean Trek very soon.

And another great week-end was had by all. The weather on Saturday morning was just brilliant, lots of sunshine and flat seas. The latter soon disappeared as soon as the north-easterly wind picked up. But by then we were well protected on the northern side of the bay by the tall cliffs of point perpendicular.

The grey nurse sharks were very inquisitive on our first dive, although vis was not the best, but they still looked great.

On the Saturday night we all enjoyed the good company and watched a few DVD’s from various dive-sites. Amongst them one from Fiji and the shark feeding in Pacific Harbour. I think everyone was amazed by the amount of fish in one dive-site and the size of the Bull-sharks. Simply awesome!

Thank you to the crew and staff for looking after us in such a professional manner. Thanks Mick and Lyn.

Well! What can one say more than wow – amazing diving (albeit cold, and a tad murky at times), amazing food, amazing people (hats off to you all!) and an utterly amazing birthday that took me completely by surprise. What with the delicious (bad healthy, believe it or not!) cake, the odd assortment of songs, the diving videos and the glass of champers: utterly unexpected but delightfully quirky. I can’t say I’ve had a better or a more unusual birthday! With regards to diving, I’d have to say my favourite was the first: it’s not every day that you get to witness the placid glory of grey nurse sharks in their natural habitat, undisturbed and unperturbed by our presence. And again, despite the cold (16C is VERY cold to one used to tropical waters!), the views were stunning: a perfect venue for my much-awaited 100th dive and the completion of the ever-handy nitrox course. I loved it here: the trip, the ship, the people (effervescent and friendly as all divers seem to be!), and the diving. Thank you all for making this a very special 18th birthday present.

Thanks, and with much love and appreciation,

Catriona Rafael (now legal!)

Well here I am back from Thailand and diving Jervis Bay! As the bay and the staff from Ocean Trek never let me down. The weather was great, the diving (that I did) was enjoyable, the food was delicious and the company was second to none.. Many thanks to Kevin and the gang from Dive 2000 for organising another memorable dive trip.

Cheers, Alfred.

Thank you Alfred, we are so lucky to have you and so many wonderful diving customers and friends. It is always such a pleasure to join our OceanTrek Team with our groups to go diving, eating, drinking and enjoy lots of laughing and fun on board which goes hand in hand with all the great diving in the bay. Kevin always enjoys teaching his photo & video students and as they progress from the basics to the more challenging aspects, he especially likes to divulge the finer points of uw image capture and join them on the dives to partake in the hunt of interesting subjects to shoot!

Lucky us!
