What I want' a be when I Grow Up

21st November 2005

Well… some people never grow up, that can be good!

A bum with no cares, living out of a bottle, with the rest of society looking after me, food clothing shelter and of course a dole to provide drinking money. Be able to move around freely and have no responsibilities for others. Life would be so simple. Now that's a stupid idea; I just like drinking Bundy

A Vet

My first memory as a child of "what I would like to do when I grow" up was when I was about 7…..[no thought in the memory bank after that …it just happened…I grew up and did a heap of things.]………anyway I wanted to look after animals had done numerous surgical procedures on my Teddy bear ,my brothers teddy bear ,and any other stuffed animal I could find…….bandaged up my dog Sambo, nurtured the newly my hatched quails, ….glued up the shell of my tortoise, splinted the legs of my guinea pig "squeaky"… so of course that was the aim of life…I was ready to do it when I grew up.

Mad Scientist

There was a time when everybody knew and admired this crazy looking guy on TV that had an answer for every question that was thrown at him. Julius Somner-Miller showed the world how to get an egg into a bottle. My ambition in life was to figure out how to get the bloody thing back out again. I eventually took physics at Uni, but failed EGG101.

The Park Ranger

as a kid I watched shows like Skippy and flipper and thought id like to be one of those Ranger guys working outdoors in a park sharing the beauties of nature with members of the public and particularly kids would be a great thing.

The Footballer

When I grow up I want to be a football player and play for Liverpool. Then I can escape these crazy people and their pegging games. As long as I don’t have to give up doing crew behaving badly, and pegging the cooks when they get drunk, and terrorising the customers. But I want the team to move over here so I can go diving with the really cool little critters and stuff, especially the little red thingies with white stripes. Remember one peg just isn’t funny, go for gold!

The Cricketer

I always wanted to play cricket at the highest level. I didn’t think as a child that the highest level would occur at the ripe old age of 34 kitting up for Keira CC 4th grade and occasionally dressing up like a wannabe cricket star like you witnessed this weekend on the legendary ocean trek. Whilst this gave me the opportunity of getting away with the odd male scratch here and there, I didn’t go home with a red rub mark down the right side of my groin, but I happened to have milo, sugar, and coffee stains in the same region, possibly evidence of the sat night vodka-athon. I guess the 47 pegs I ended up sleeping with will come in handy in cleaning these great whites.

The Lawyer

The smart dress and sophisticated look of a lawyer is what attracted me to be a lawyer, but I guess with a cheap suit case and without the shoes, you may have suspected I was just dreamin ! Still, like all good lawyers, it was time to forget the truths over a few cold stiff ales !

Geoff

I chose not to dress up because the thought of growing up disappoints me, I wish to remain a big kid at heart. To the crew of Ocean Trek thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Robyn……the belly-dancer.

I hope that as an 80+ year old I will be able to dress up, have fun, get exercise and entertain the "old people" in the nursing home like my friend "young Mona".

John, The Journalist

As with Geoff I hope to never really grow up but I stopped buying and reading newspapers 25 years ago. If I did grow up and become a journalist I would certainly put my own slant on the news of the day and it wouldn’t be presented as it usually is these days. I am sure there are some good news stories out there.

Darren, The Fireman

After just completing my second 21st birthday(42) a career change from Technician to Fireman was most desirable. I could not get into the swing of things due to a mild tummy bug but enjoyed everyone getting into the spirit of role playing. I hope to return to Jervis Bay and rekindle the friendships made with all at JBDC. Thanks heaps Lyn & Mick!!!

David, The Professional Golfer – Bobby Locke

When about 15 yrs of age I had this burning desire to become a professional golfer. I had just bought my first full set of matched clubs ‘Bobby Lockes’ and was on a single figure handicap. The resident Pro at Moore Park GC spoke to my father asking if he could apprentice me. The answer was ‘no’, I was shattered and could not understand the reasoning that he wanted something better for me. I can now thankfully say of he did. Now I enjoy playing about 2 to 3 times a week.

Miss Universe – Sue

It was never really a dream of mine, it was something that just happened unexpectedly. I had a lot a lot of fun while it lasted. Jennifer – eat your heart out.

Jonny Wilkinson - Toddie

He is good looking like me, can kick a ball better than me, tackles better than I do. He plays for a great rugby team and we hold the world cup!

Pint of Guinness - Mon

I have always wanted to have the optimum iron content, be smooth as silk , black as the ace of spades and keep everybody waiting and …..I have an Irish heritage!

Christmas Tree – Leander

When I was a kid I wasn’t allowed to play with the Christmas lights on the tree - I always thought … when I grow up! …
