Naming of Jervis Bay

In 1791 Lt Richard Bowen the naval agent on board the transport ship "Atlantic" called into the bay. He then named the bay "Jervis Bay" in honour of Sir John Jervis (later Earl of St Vincent ) ,his former commanding officer in the Royal Navy.
